Meet the Revision Rhinoplasty Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty here and is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what a revision assessment usually needs: the centre’s surgical standards and its case review for a second operation on scarred nasal tissue, the assessment of the skin envelope and the nasal lining, and the dermatologic diagnosis of a nose that is inflamed, crusted or allergic rather than wrongly shaped.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty · nasal airway and septal assessment · graft and skin envelope planning

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is the judgement that a nose is not ready to be assessed until it has finished healing, and that the airway comes before the outline. He examines each side of the nose before and after decongestion to separate swelling from structure, looks inside for a septal collection or a hole that a patient cannot see, and examines the skin over the tip before discussing what can be added or removed. Where the honest answer is that a revision cannot improve on the result the patient already has, he says so before the plan rather than after it.

Clinical focus

  • Revision nasal assessment: airway, septum, framework and skin envelope
  • Breathing problems after previous nasal surgery, structural and otherwise
  • Septal haematoma, perforation and the internal findings that cannot wait
  • Graft material and the limits a thin skin envelope imposes
  • Honest planning of what a second nasal operation can and cannot change

The airway is examined before the outline

A nose that looks right and cannot breathe is not a success, and the commonest thing missed after nasal surgery is inside the nose, where a patient cannot see it. The examination therefore starts with each side of the airway and with the septum, and it looks at the skin over the tip before it discusses shape, because those three decide what any revision can safely do.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard a revision plan has to meet and the backstop behind it: the hospital-level assessment when a nasal problem needs more than an outpatient visit, and the case review that a second operation on scarred nasal tissue is held to.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · the skin envelope and the nasal lining

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this site her part is the skin the nose depends on: its thickness, its quality and how it is recovering over a graft, together with the crusting, irritation and lining problems that imitate a structural fault and have to be told apart from one.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · inflammatory and allergic disease of the nose and skin

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the nose that is red, swollen, crusted or itchy rather than wrongly shaped — the skin and lining conditions that mimic a surgical problem, that an operation does not correct, and that have to be identified before a revision is planned.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

A nose is judged after it has healed

Arrange an assessment. We will examine the airway and the septum, establish what the first operation used and what remains, and say honestly whether the answer now is treatment, time, or a revision later.
